William Reid Pitts, III
Are you seeking non-judgmental, engaged and collaborative, solution-focused help? As a gender-conscious, cis male psychotherapist specializing in couples and individual therapy, I use both systemic and psychodynamic thinking to help a patient or couple understand their position(s), roles, and relationships, past and present. I honor self-determination and facilitate self-awareness, so that each person I work with can gain clarity, perspective, and relief.
My postgraduate training includes psychoanalytic techniques, couples therapy, money management, harm reduction, and studies in sexualities and gender. I’ve trained at the Ackerman Institute, the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, the Harm Reduction Program at The New School, and the National Institute for Psychotherapies. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, mood swings, gender nonconformity/gender creative/genderqueer, sexual abuse and trauma, dissociation, work and life stress/anxiety around life cycle changes, difficulties with emotional intimacy, issues around infidelity and parenting, artistic challenges, and substance misuse.
I teach at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies and have written for Division Review and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
As a native New Yorker, I have lived my life in diversity. As a former composer for film and theatre, I value verbal and non-verbal coping strategies and modes of healing.
